Tan Sri (Dr) Mohd Nadzmi bin Mohd Salleh was appointed as Executive Chairman of the Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) on 14 April 1998.
Tan Sri (Dr) Mohd Nadzmi has vast experience, especially in the automobile and public transportation industry. He graduated from Ohio University, USA in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. He also holds a Master of Arts in Economics and Statistics from Miami University, USA.
Tan Sri (Dr) Mohd Nadzmi was thrust into the corporate world at an early stage of his career. At the age of 36, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad (“EON”), the company which was responsible for the distribution of the Malaysian national car. Prior to his appointment, he had gained recognition for being instrumental in ensuring the successful launch of the Malaysian national car. As a result, he was conferred the title “Man of the Year” from the Malaysian Business Magazine in 1986. During his three (3) years of tenure at EON, he managed to diversify the company’s business activities to include finance, property and banking. In 1990, he led the company to its successful listing on the Main Board of the KLSE. His achievements at EON subsequently led to his appointment by the Malaysia Government as the Chief Executive Officer of Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Berhad (“PROTON”), the company which manufactures the Malaysian national car, at the age of 39. The said appointment earned him the “Outstanding Young Malaysian” award in 1993 from the Malaysian Junior Chamber of Commerce. The following year, he was elected to join the prestigious and exclusive membership of “Global Leaders for Tomorrow” by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
In 1996, Tan Sri (Dr) Mohd Nadzmi made the successful transition from a professional manager to an entrepreneur when he left his position as the Chief Executive Officer at PROTON and took over the ownership and management of a loss-making company, Mara Holding Sdn Bhd (“Mara Holding”). Tan Sri (Dr) Mohd Nadzmi successfully turned around the company in a span of one and half years, making it a successful venture with four (4) core activities, namely public bus transportation, manufacturing, property and defence.
Due to his achievement in turning around Mara Holding, he was propelled into the limelight as a turnaround specialist. His services were called upon once again by the Malaysian Government to spearhead a national project involving the provision of high speed train services between the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the Kuala Lumpur City Centre via a company known as Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL). The project has now been successfully implemented and Tan Sri (Dr) Mohd Nadzmi is presently the Executive Chairman of ERL.
His achievements have earned him many accolades to-date. In 2004, he was named as Malaysia’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (2003) and was the recipient of the Master Entrepreneur of the Year (2003) award. He was also awarded Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 by Enterprise Asia. In 2012, he was conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship by the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (“UTEM”) and in 2013, he was awarded BrandLaureate Great Entrepreneur Brand Icon Leadership Award. In 2014, he was conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship by the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (“UMK”) and in 2015, he was awarded the Global Leadership Award by the Leaders International.
Tan Sri (Dr) Mohd Nadzmi is also currently the Chairman and Managing Director of Konsortium Transnasional Berhad, the Chairman and Managing Director of Transocean Holdings Berhad and Director of Kumpulan Kenderaan Malaysia Berhad and Park May Berhad. He also chairs and is a board member of several private companies.
Tan Sri (Sir) Francis Yeoh Sock Ping was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) on 29 January 1996 as a Director.
Tan Sri Francis has been the Managing Director of the YTL Corporation Berhad since April 1988 till 29 June 2018 when he was redesignated as Executive Chairman. Tan Sri Francis studied at Kingston University in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Civil Engineering and was conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering in 2004. In July 2014, Tan Sri Francis was conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from University of Nottingham.
He became the Managing Director of YTL Corporation Berhad Group in 1988 which, under his stewardship, has grown from a single listed company into a global integrated infrastructure developer, encompassing multiple listed entities ie. YTL Corporation Berhad, YTL Power International Berhad, YTL Hospitality REIT, Malayan Cement Berhad and Starhill Global Real Estate Investment Trust.
He was the Managing Director of YTL Power International Berhad, and YTL Land & Development Berhad until 29 June 2018 when he was redesignated as Executive Chairman of these companies. He is also the Executive Chairman of Malayan Cement Berhad, which is listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. He is the Executive Chairman and Managing Director of YTL e-Solutions Berhad. He is also the Chairman of YTL Starhill Global REIT Management Limited, the manager of Starhill Global Real Estate Investment Trust, a vehicle listed on the Main Board of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited (SGX-ST).
Tan Sri Francis is the Executive Chairman of YTL Cement Berhad and Pintar Projek Sdn Bhd, the manager of YTL Hospitality REIT. He is the Chairman of private utilities corporations, Wessex Water Services Limited in England and Wales, and YTL PowerSeraya Pte Limited in Singapore. Tan Sri Francis is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, and is a director of YTL Industries Berhad. He also sits on the board of trustees of YTL Foundation. He also serves on the board of directors of Suu Foundation, a humanitarian organisation committed to improving healthcare and education in Myanmar.
He is a Founder Member of the Malaysian Business Council and The Capital Markets Advisory Council, member of The Nature Conservancy Asia Pacific Council, and the Asia Business Council, Trustee of the Asia Society and Chairman for South East Asia of the International Friends of the Louvre. He is also a member of the Advisory Council of London Business School, Wharton School and INSEAD. He is the first non-Italian board member of the historic Rome Opera House and helped fund its restoration to keep it from closing. He served as a member of the Barclays Asia-Pacific Advisory Committee from 2005 to 2012. Tan Sri Francis was made a board member of Global Child Forum by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf in May 2016.
He was ranked by both Fortune and Businessweek magazines as Asia’s 25 Most Powerful and Influential Business Personalities and one of Asia’s Top Executives by Asiamoney. He won the inaugural Ernst & Young’s Master Entrepreneur in Malaysia in 2002 and was named as Malaysia’s CEO of the Year by CNBC Asia Pacific in 2005.
In 2006, he was awarded the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and in 2019, received the Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE).
Tan Sri Francis received a prestigious professional accolade when made a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers in London in 2008. He was the Primus Inter Pares Honouree of the 2010 Oslo Business for Peace Award, for his advocacy of socially responsible business ethics and practices. The Award was conferred by a panel of Nobel Laureates in Oslo, home of the Nobel Peace Prize. He also received the Corporate Social Responsibility Award at CNBC’s 9th Asia Business Leaders Awards 2010. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Leadership in Regulated Industries at the 7th World Chinese Economic Summit held in London in 2015. He was also awarded the prestigious Muhammad Ali Celebrity Fight Night Award at the 2016 Celebrity Fight Night in Arizona. In 2017, he was honoured with the Kuala Lumpur Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution at the Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tourism Awards. This was in recognition of his efforts in the transformation of Kuala Lumpur into one of the top shopping and tourist destinations in the world. He was named CEO of the Year at the Asian Power Awards in 2017. The Japanese Government bestowed upon him the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, in 2018 and in the same year the Italian government conferred upon him the honour of Grande Officiale of the Order of the Star of Italy.
Dato’ Yeoh Seok Hong was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) on 29 January 1996 as a Director.
He serves as Managing Director of YTL Power International Berhad and Executive Director of Malayan Cement Berhad, both listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Civil & Structural Engineering Degree from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom in 1982. He is a member of the Faculty of Building, United Kingdom. In 2010, he was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Science degree by Aston University in the United Kingdom.
Dato’ Yeoh Seok Hong has vast experience in the construction industry and serves as the Managing Director of Syarikat Pembenaan Yeoh Tiong Lay Sdn Bhd, the YTL Group’s flagship construction arm. He was the project director responsible for the development and the construction of the two Independent Power Producer power stations owned by YTL Power Generation Sdn Bhd.
His other achievements include the construction of the Express Rail Link between the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station. He is also responsible for developing the power and utility businesses of the YTL Power International Berhad Group and the building of the fourth generation (4G) network by YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, where he serves as the Managing Director. Dato’ Yeoh Seok Hong sits on the boards of other public companies such as YTL Cement Berhad, YTL Land & Development Berhad and YTL Industries Berhad, and private utilities corporations, Wessex Water Limited and Wessex Water Services Limited in England and Wales and YTL PowerSeraya Pte Limited in Singapore. He also sits on the board of trustees of YTL Foundation.
Dato’ Sri Michael Yeoh Sock Siong was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) on 29 January 1996 as a Director.
He graduated from University of Bradford, United Kingdom in 1983 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Civil & Structural Engineering Degree. Dato’ Sri Michael Yeoh is primarily responsible for the YTL Group Manufacturing Division which activities involve cement manufacturing and other building material industries.
He serves as Managing Director of Malayan Cement Berhad and Executive Director of YTL Power International Berhad, both listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad and Managing Director of YTL Cement Berhad. He also sits on the boards of other public companies such as YTL Land & Development Berhad, YTL e-Solutions Berhad, YTL Industries Berhad, Kedah Cement Holdings Berhad and a private utilities corporation, YTL PowerSeraya Pte Limited in Singapore.
Dato’ Mark Yeoh Seok Kah was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) on 29 January 1996 as a Director.
He graduated from King’s College, University of London, with an LLB (Hons) and was subsequently called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn, London in 1988. He was awarded Fellowship of King’s College London in July 2014.
Dato’ Mark Yeoh joined YTL Group in 1989 and is presently the Executive Director responsible for the YTL Hotels and Resorts Division. In addition, he is also part of YTL Power’s Mergers & Acquisitions Team and was involved in the acquisition of ElectraNet SA (Australia), Wessex Water Limited (UK), P.T. Jawa Power (Indonesia) and PowerSeraya Limited (Singapore). He serves as an Executive Director of YTL Power International Berhad, which is listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. He is also an Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Pintar Projek Sdn Bhd, the manager of YTL Hospitality REIT. Tuan Syed Abdullah bin Syed Abd. Kadir was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) as Alternate Director to Tan Sri (Sir) Francis Yeoh Sock Ping on 29 January 1996.
He graduated from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science (Engineering Production) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) Double Degree. He has extensive experience in banking and financial services, having been with Bumiputra Merchant Bankers Berhad from 1984 to 1994, holding the position of general manager immediately prior to his departure from the bank.
Prior to joining YTL Corporation Berhad Group, he was, from November 1994 to February 1996, the general manager of Amanah Capital Partners Berhad (now known as MIDF Amanah Capital Berhad), a company which has interests in, inter alia, discount, money broking, unit trusts, finance and fund management operations. He currently also serves on the boards of YTL Power International Berhad which is listed on the Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad and YTL e-Solutions Berhad.
Encik Muhammad Hariz bin Mohd Nadzmi was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) as Alternate Director to Tan Sri Mohd Nadzmi bin Mohd Salleh on 9 June 2020.
He graduated from the Curtin International College & University, Perth with a Diploma of Commerce (Accounting) in 2008. He began his career as an Executive Director of Trisilco Motor Group before becoming a Special Officer to the Chairman of Konsortium Transnasional Berhad (KTB) in 2015.
Encik Muhammad Hariz has over 10 years of experience in transport and logistics industry, having served in various roles upon his graduation. He sat on the board of Nadicorp Holdings Sdn Bhd and was subsequently appointed the Group Chairman and Managing Director of Nadicorp Holdings Sdn Bhd in June 2020. He is also the Managing Director of Badanbas Sdn Bhd, an Advisor at Transocean Holdings Berhad and currently serves on the boards of Sinar Berlian Sdn Bhd and Sinar Tayar Holding Sdn Bhd.
Prof. Dr Ashraf Bin Md Hashim was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) as Director on 18 November 2021.
Prof. Dr Ashraf has extensive experience in the field of Islamic Finance. He is presently the Chief Executive Officer of ISRA International Consulting and a Professor at International Centre of Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF). He currently sits on the Central Bank of Malaysia's Shariah Advisory Council as Deputy Chairman and the Securities Commission of Malaysia’s Shariah Advisory Council. He also serves on many other Shariah Committees and is actively involved in consulting projects related to Islamic Finance abroad. He is currently a board member of Tabung Haji and a member of the Panel of Shariah Experts in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Prof. Dr Ashraf obtained his PhD (Islamic Law) from University of Birmingham, United Kingdom in 1999. He obtained his Masters in Fiqh and Usul Fiqh from University of Jordan in 1995 and his BA in Shariah from the Islamic University in Medina, Saudi Arabia in 1991. He is also a holder of Postgraduate Diploma in Shariah Law and Practice (DSLP) from International Islamic University Malaysia (2000).
Dato’ Sri Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman Mufadhal was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) as a Director on 26 August 2022.
He has spent the last 34 years of his career actively involved in various fields such as Corporate Finance & Services, Fund Management, Business Development, Equity & Property Investments and Hajj Management. Between 2004 and 2006, he was given the additional responsibility to spearhead one of Lembaga Tabung Haji’s (LTH) subsidiaries, as the CEO of TH Travel & Services Sdn. Bhd.
In his current capacity as the Executive Director Hajj in Lembaga Tabung Haji, Dato’ Sri Syed Saleh leads, strategically plans and provides general oversight in the development of all activities in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia for Hajj Department and Hajj Operations. As the Head of the Hajj Delegation every year since 2011, he is responsible for ensuring the smooth conduct and running of Hajj operations by working closely with various Saudi Arabia’s Government agencies.
Dato’ Sri Syed Saleh holds a Master of Business Administration and- BEng (Tech) in Civil Engineering from University of Wales, UK.
Encik Mustakim Bin Mohamad was appointed to the Board of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) as a Director on 2 March 2022.
He is a Chartered Accountant and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Malaysia and later joined Lembaga Tabung Haji in 2003. He has more than 20 years’ experience in various functions including accounting, finance, investment and deposits related operations. His exposure in investment field was in both local and international private and public equities.
Encik Mustakim was made Deputy Group Chief Financial Officer in 2018 and subsequently made Executive Director Operations in 2020 before taking up his current role as Executive Director Group Finance in 2022. He is also a nominee director of Lembaga Tabung Haji in a number of corporations including Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd.
Encik Mustakim holds a Master in Finance from RMIT University, Australia and graduated from Lancaster University, United Kingdom with a Bachelor in Accounting and Finance.
